LCRA sets meeting for May 13 to receive comments on proposed quarry
Meeting provides additional way for members of the public to provide feedback
APRIL 22, 2025
BURNET, Texas – The Lower Colorado River Authority is expanding the ways members of the public can share feedback on a proposed aggregate processing plant and quarry near Inks Lake.
In addition to providing comments online or by mail, members of the public are welcome to share their comments in person between 8 and 11 a.m. on May 13 at the Burnet Community Center, 401 E. Jackson St. in Burnet.
During the meeting, each person wanting to provide feedback will go to one of the stations set up around the community center and will have three minutes to share comments on the quarry application from Asphalt Inc. All comments will be recorded and provided to LCRA staff members to consider in their evaluation of the application and whether it meets the standards of the Highland Lakes Watershed Ordinance.
The come-and-go meeting is strictly for LCRA to collect comments from the public. The meeting will not include a presentation or question and answer session.
Comments may be provided on any topic, but by law LCRA is limited to determining whether the application meets the requirements of the Highland Lakes Watershed Ordinance, which focuses on protecting water quality that may be impacted from stormwater runoff from the project site. LCRA does not have jurisdiction to address issues such as air quality, traffic impacts, groundwater usage, flooding and noise or structural impacts from possible blasting activities at the site.
“We welcome comments from the public, whether delivered in writing or in person,” said John Hofmann, LCRA executive vice president of Water. “If you’ve already submitted written comments, you’re welcome to provide comments in person as well, but please know you don’t need to show up on May 13 to have your voice heard. We have received your comments and will continue to consider them as we evaluate the application.”
Asphalt Inc. is proposing to build an aggregate processing plant and quarry near Inks Lake. The application and correspondence between LCRA and Asphalt Inc. are available at www.lcra.org/quarrycomments.
LCRA has received more than 2,000 comments from members of the public since it began accepting comments on the application in early January. LCRA will continue to accept comments on the application online and by mail until 5 p.m. on May 13. Comments may be submitted online at www.lcra.org/quarrycomments or by mail to LCRA Watershed Management, P.O. Box 220, Mail Stop L106, Austin, TX 78767. Mailed comments must be postmarked by 5 p.m. on May 13.
