LCRA awards $20,214 grant to Junction After School Program, Family Center
Energy-efficient doors and windows will lower operating costs for new building
OCT. 30, 2024
JUNCTION, Texas – The new Junction Community After School Program & Family Center soon will be equipped with energy-saving windows and doors, thanks in part to a $20,214 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority.
The Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with over $5,000 from the organization, will allow the Junction Community After School Program to purchase and install energy-efficient doors and windows to ensure the new building is environmentally friendly as it opens its doors to serve the public.
Erin Guerrero, executive director of the Junction CASP, said the grant saved the organization a great deal of money as it prepares to open its new facility in 2025, enabling it to earmark those funds for programming instead of higher electric bills.
“We are the only after-school care program in Kimble County, and until now we’ve been using the Methodist church gym,” Guerrero said. “We are super excited to have received this grant from LCRA as construction continues on our very own building.”
Guerrero said the new building will provide space for the organization to offer expanded programming as it works to become an all-around family center that provides services to people of all ages, from kindergarten to senior citizens.
“The new facility will not only house the after-school program, it will also help us offer classes for adults and other individuals in the community,” Guerrero said. “We plan to offer classes for GED, ESL and financial literacy to continue our mission of ensuring everyone in Kimble County has a chance at an enriched and empowered life.”
The community grant is one of 37 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund eligible capital improvement projects in
LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves.
Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in January. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
