Hays Energy to Kendall Corridor Transmission Line Upgrade Program

LCRA Transmission Services Corporation is rebuilding an approximately 60-mile transmission line corridor from Hays Energy Substation near Interstate 35 in San Marcos to Kendall Substation near Comfort. This transmission upgrade program includes 10 projects.

These projects will help support the reliability of the ERCOT power grid and allow continued safe and reliable operation of the transmission system. New transmission line structures and conductor wire will be installed.

Latest Update – September 2024

Crews have completed work on the Antler-Highway 46 project in Comal County. Construction on the Highway 46-River Oaks project in Comal County is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024. Construction on the Antler-Bergheim project in Comal County and the Bergheim-Fair Oaks project in Comal and Kendall counties is scheduled to be completed in early 2025.

Right-of-way work is underway on the Boerne Split-Welfare and Kendall-Welfare projects in Kendall County, and construction is scheduled to begin in early 2025.

Previous Project Updates

March 2024
Crews completed work on the Esperanza-Fair Oaks project in Kendall County. Most work is complete on the Boerne-Esperanza project in Kendall County, with a few remaining tasks expected to be completed in May 2024.

Construction work is continuing on the Antler-Highway 46 and Highway 46-River Oaks projects in Comal County. Antler-Highway 46 construction is scheduled to be completed in June 2024, and Highway 46-River Oaks completion is expected in October 2024.

Construction work has begun on the Antler-Bergheim project in Comal County and is expected to be completed in April 2025. Construction work on the Bergheim-Fair Oaks project in Comal and Kendall counties is set to begin in April 2024 and be completed in July 2025.

Right-of-way work on the Boerne Split-Welfare and Kendall-Welfare projects in Kendall County is underway, and construction is scheduled to start in summer 2024.

December 2023

Crews completed work on the Esperanza-Fair Oaks project in Kendall County. Over the next few months, crews will remain along that segment while removing equipment and restoring the right of way. Construction is continuing on the Boerne-Esperanza project in Kendall County and is expected to be completed in February 2024. Construction work is underway on the Highway 46-River Oaks and the Antler-Highway 46 projects in Comal County. Highway 46-River Oaks completion is expected around the end of May 2024, and Antler-Highway 46 completion is expected around the end of June 2024.

Right-of-way work has begun on the Antler-Bergheim (Comal County) and Bergheim-Fair Oaks (Comal/Kendall counties) projects. ROW work on the Boerne Split-Welfare and Kendall-Welfare projects in Kendall County is scheduled to begin in mid-December 2023.

September 2023
Construction work is continuing on the Esperanza-Fair Oaks and Boerne-Esperanza projects in Kendall County. Construction on Esperanza-Fair Oaks is scheduled to be completed in October 2023, and construction on Boerne-Esperanza is scheduled for completion in February 2024. Work is underway on the Highway 46-River Oaks and the Antler-Highway 46 projects in Comal County. Highway 46-River Oaks completion is expected around the end of May 2024, and Antler-Highway 46 completion is expected around the end of June 2024.
July 2023
Crews have completed work on the Hays Energy-Henne and Henne-River Oaks projects, and are removing equipment from those sections. Construction work is now occurring on the Boerne-Esperanza and Esperanza-Fair Oaks projects in Kendall County. Construction on those segments is scheduled to be completed in November 2023. Construction work is scheduled to begin in August on the Highway 46-River Oaks and the Antler-Highway 46 projects in Comal County.
December 2022
Construction started in late 2022 on the eastern end of the corridor in Hays County moving westward into Comal County. LCRA staff members and contractors will be present along the rights of way, and crews using large vehicles and equipment will be present during construction.
