Commercial, Institutional and Industrial Rebates

WaterSmart Rebates are available for businesses, industries, schools, hospitals, churches and other institutions in LCRA’s water service area to help implement new water-saving equipment and practices.

APPLY FOR A REBATE

Eligibility

You qualify for WaterSmart Rebates if you are an LCRA water customer or receive water from one of these LCRA water customers.

Water audits

Contact LCRA staff at [email protected] to learn more about water audit rebates up to $125 per hour for outdoor audits (not to exceed $2,000), or up to $125 per hour for indoor and outdoor audit (not to exceed $5,000). Staff approval is required.

Water-savings technology

Install water-savings technology, such as rainwater harvesting, cooling tower recycling, or commercial ice machines, and receive a rebate of 50 % of cost, up to $20,000. A water audit is required. Contact LCRA staff at [email protected] for more information.

WaterSmart rebates

LCRA provides rebates for 50% of the cost, up to $5,000 per system, for irrigation system equipment upgrades, compost and mulch, aeration, pool filters, and turf grass conversion to conserve water and increase efficiency.

Irrigation equipment rebates

How to apply for irrigation equipment rebates
  • Step 1.
    Purchase and install equipment. Keep your receipt.
  • Step 2.
    Take photo of installed equipment.
  • Step 3.
    Gather other needed information:
    • IRS tax ID
    • A completed IRS W-9 form
    • Information on rebate items:
      • Type of WaterSense smart controller installed and the type and number of stations it controls
      • Brand and number of flow sensors installed
      • Number of soil moisture sensors installed
      • Number of rain sensors installed
      • Number of pressure-regulating heads, in-line pressure regulators, nozzles or valves installed and operating pressure before
      • Brand and number of hose-end timers installed
  • Step 4.
    Complete online application within 90 days of installation.

Landscape rebates

Rebate Type Rebate Amount
Mechanical aeration 50% of equipment rental or contractor costs up to $100
Compost and mulch 50% of cost. No Dillo Dirt™, rock or rubber.
Turf conversion (require pre-approval) $0.50 per square foot up to $4,000 to convert a minimum of 200 square feet of healthy turf grass to native garden beds or drought-tolerant landscapes. Replacement landscapes may not include drought-tolerant turf grass or automatic irrigation.

  • Step 1.
    Contact LCRA at [email protected] to schedule a pre-approval inspection to review your design and irrigation plans, the size of the area, and your timeline.
  • Step 2.
    LCRA staff will let you know if the project qualifies for the rebate.
  • Step 3.
    Replace turf. Keep your receipt(s).
  • Step 4.
    Take photo of completed work.
  • Step 5:
    Gather other needed information:
    • IRS tax ID
    • A completed IRS W-9 form
    • Area of landscape converted to native beds or permeable hardscape
  • Step 6.
    Complete online application within 90 days of installation.
To apply for rebates for compost and mulch, mechanical aeration and soil testing
  • Step 1.
    Aerate landscape, purchase and install compost and mulch, or purchase and perform soil test. Keep your receipt(s).
  • Step 2.
    Take photo of completed work.
  • Step 3:
    Gather other needed information:
    • IRS tax ID
    • A completed IRS W-9 form
    • Information on rebate items:
      • Number of cubic yards of compost of mulch and percent of landscape and size of area treated with compost or mulch
      • Percent of landscape aerated
      • Type of soil test performed
  • Step 4.
    Complete online application within 90 days of installation.

Pool rebates

    Purchase and install pool filter. Keep your receipt(s).

    Take photo of installed equipment.

    • A completed IRS W-9 form
    • Information on rebate items:
      • Pool filter brand and model
  • Step 4:
    Complete online application within 90 days of installation.

Indoor rebates

  • Step 1.
    Purchase and install high-efficiency spray rinse valve. Keep your receipt(s).
  • Step 2.
    Take photo of installed equipment.
  • Step 3.
    Gather other needed information:
    • IRS tax ID
    • A completed IRS W-9 form
    • Information on rebate items:
      • Number of valves installed
  • Step 4:
    Complete online application within 90 days of installation.

WaterSmart Rebates rules

  • Applicant must have a water account with LCRA or one of LCRA’s firm water customers.
  • Applicant must provide a copy of itemized receipts supporting this application.
  • Rebates are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. LCRA does not guarantee sufficient program funding or that all applicants will receive a rebate.
  • Applicant must submit this application within 90 calendar days of completing the work.
  • Rebates cover equipment costs, not labor or tax, unless otherwise specified.
  • Work on the irrigation system has to be done by the system’s owner or an irrigator licensed with the State of Texas.
  • LCRA and its firm water customers are in no way responsible for the installation or operation of the irrigation equipment.
  • All rebates are for non-potable uses and should not connect to local or potable water systems.
  • LCRA and its firm water customers have the right, but not the obligation, to inspect the equipment installed to verify installations meet manufacturer requirements.
  • LCRA and its firm customers have not made and do not make any representations, warranties or promises, either expressed or implied, with the respect to any irrigation equipment, including but not limited to any warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, or quality, reliability, durability, water savings or compatibility with your existing irrigation system.
  • LCRA can terminate the WaterSmart Rebates program at any time. This rebate program is active as of 11/20/2024.
