CROCKETT COUNTY, Texas – The Crockett County Museum soon will replace its current marquee with a modern LED message board, thanks to a $23,582 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority.

The LCRA Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with more than $5,000 in matching funds from the museum, will enable the museum to purchase the new marquee, improving the museum’s ability to share timely information on exhibits, hours and community events hosted by other non-profit organizations.

The new LED message board will make it easier to display messaging and provide real-time updates, unlike the current magnetic sign that requires manual changes and frequent replacing of the letters due to damage from direct sunlight.

“Our existing sign has served us well but is outdated and requires physical updates, which can be time-consuming,” said Karen Bebee, board president of Crockett County Museum. “In addition to our permanent exhibits, we have rotating and special exhibits. With this new electronic message center, we will be able to update information with the click of a button, ensuring our community and visitors are always up to date on what’s happening at the museum and in our town.”

The new marquee will reflect the historical appearance of the museum’s building, while offering the efficiency of modern technology. The museum, known as “the biggest little museum in Texas,” draws many visitors traveling along Interstate 10. With the upgraded sign, museum officials hope to attract even more tourists to the community.

“We’re excited that the new marquee will not only maintain the historic charm of our building, but also provide a much-needed modern touch that will help us reach more people,” Bebee said. “The new marquee will be located right in front of the museum on town square. We believe this upgrade will enhance the museum’s visibility, encourage travelers to stop in and contribute to the vitality of our local businesses.”

The community grant is one of 37 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund eligible capital improvement projects in LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in January. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
