Although there will be several opportunities for rain this week, no heavy or significant rain is expected. Seven-day totals are forecast to generally average around a half inch, with isolated totals to around 1 inch possible. Warmer and more humid weather will return Wednesday and continue through Friday. Cooler temperatures will follow this weekend.

Pleasant, spring-like temperatures will continue this afternoon, before warmer and more humid air begins returning off the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday and Tuesday night. This southerly flow is expected to continue through Friday. For the week, we’ll see a series of weak troughs of low pressure tracking east across Texas out of northern Mexico. These systems will cause slight chance for scattered rain showers and thunderstorms each day beginning Tuesday, continuing through Friday. However, rain amounts are not expected to be very heavy. A cold front is predicted to push through the area late Friday, bringing cooler air that will remain in place through the weekend and early next week.

The outlook for next week shows a generally dry pattern with mild temperatures.

Here’s a breakdown of this week’s weather:

This Afternoon through Tonight

Monday started off with fairly cool temperatures across the region. According to LCRA’s Hydromet, lows included the low and mid-40s across the Hill Country, the mid and upper 40s across Central Texas, and the upper 40s to low 50s across the coastal Plains. The lowest gauged temperature was 38 degrees, at a site  in southern Llano County, located to the northeast of Willow City.

A mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky is forecast this afternoon. Forecasters are monitoring a weak wave of low pressure located across Far West Texas, that is tracking to the east. This system has been producing some high-based light showers across West Texas, over the area between Midland and Del Rio through the morning hours. Some of these light shows may spread into the northern and western Hill Country this afternoon, producing a few sprinkles of light rain. Elsewhere, expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. Today’s temperature is forecast to warm to the upper 70s.

A slight chance for rain showers and isolated thunderstorms is forecast across the region late tonight. High-resolution forecasts call for an area of thunderstorms to develop along the dry line across Far West Texas this evening. Rain showers and scattered thunderstorms are predicted to spread east across the Hill Country close to or just after midnight, into Central Texas between about 1 am and 4 am, and the coastal plains just before daybreak. Severe storms are not anticipated. A spotty coverage of rain is forecast, with most totals averaging less than a quarter inch.

Lows Tuesday morning are forecast to be in the upper 50s.

Tuesday

Showers and isolated thunderstorms from Monday night are forecast to dissipate after sunrise Tuesday. Widespread clouds can be expected Tuesday morning. These clouds will give way to a partly to mostly cloudy sky in the afternoon. A strengthening flow off the Gulf will cause noticeably more humid conditions. Mostly cloudy conditions will follow Tuesday night.

  • Tuesday’s high temperature is forecast to be near 78-80 degrees.
  • Lows Wednesday morning are forecast to be in the mid and upper 60s.

Wednesday and Thursday

Warm and humid conditions will continue thanks to a moist flow off the Gulf of Mexico. There will be a 20-30 percent chance for scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms both days as series of weak waves of low pressure move over the area from the west. The probability for rain will only be around 20-30 percent. Rain amounts, if any, are forecast to average between a tenth and a quarter inch. Expect a pattern of morning clouds and a partly cloudy sky in the afternoon. High temperatures both days are forecast to be in the low and mid-80s. Lows will be in the upper 60s.

Friday

We’ll see another day with morning clouds and partly cloudy conditions in the afternoon. A slight chance for rain showers and thunderstorms is forecast to develop late Friday afternoon into Friday evening when a cold front is predicted to spread south across the area. As of now, only spotty showers and thunderstorms are forecast, with rain amounts averaging less than a quarter inch. High temperatures will be in the mid-80s. Cooler air will arrive Friday evening and Friday night. Lows Saturday morning will include the upper 40s across the Hill Country, the low and mid-50s across Central Texas, and the low 60s towards the coast.

Saturday through Monday

A somewhat unsettled pattern is forecast to develop next Sunday into Monday when a trough of low pressure tracks southeast out of the southern Rockies. Ahead of this system, there will be a slight chance for showers on Saturday. However, the chance for rain and thunderstorms is forecast to increase Sunday into Monday morning as the trough moves across the southern Plains. As of now, rain amounts are forecast to average around a half inch, but could trend a little higher as we get a better handle on the situation. The chance for rain should diminish Monday afternoon.

High temperatures are forecast to be in the upper 60s to low 70s, while low temperatures will be in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Next Tuesday through Friday

Partly cloudy and generally dry weather is forecast. Expect high temperatures in the low to mid-80s, with lows in the 50s.

Have a good week.
