Last week’s wet weather pattern came to a close Friday night. Although clouds lingered through the weekend, there was no additional rain. Early Monday morning, a few showers and thunderstorms spread into the western Hill Country out of West Texas, but rain amounts were less than a quarter inch.
This week’s weather will include a chance for scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms Monday afternoon and again on Tuesday. Widespread rain is not expected and rain amounts should average less than a quarter inch. Sunny, dry, and warmer weather will be in place Wednesday and Thursday. A slight chance for rain will return to the forecast Friday, followed by a better chance for rain on Saturday. Dry weather is forecast Sunday. The next chance for rain is expected to take shape the middle of next week, but as of now, rain amounts are not shaping up to be all that heavy.
No extremes in the temperature are forecast over the next couple of weeks.
Here’s a breakdown of this weeks weather:
Monday Afternoon through Monday Night
A trough of low pressure in the middle and upper atmosphere currently located over Northwest Texas is tracking to the southeast. This system sparked the development of a cluster of thunderstorms across the Concho Valley late Sunday night. Although the thunderstorms diminished around daybreak Monday, remnants of the cluster produced additional thunderstorms over the area between Junction and San Antonio late Monday morning.
Forecasts call for the trough to move southeast across Central Texas Monday afternoon and Monday night, reaching Southeast Texas on Tuesday, and the northwestern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday. With this in mind, the approaching trough will cause a 30-40 percent chance for rain showers and scattered thunderstorms for areas west of Interstate 35 this afternoon. There will be just a 20 percent chance for showers and scattered thunderstorms for areas along and east of Interstate 35. The chance for rain is predicted to diminish by early evening. For areas that do see rain this afternoon, totals should average less than a quarter inch. Today’s sky is expected to remain mostly cloudy. High temperatures will generally be in the mid-70s.
A partly cloudy sky is forecast Monday night. Lows Tuesday morning will range from the low 50s across the Hill Country, to the upper 50s near the coast.
Tuesday through Tuesday Night
There will be a slight chance for a few showers and isolated thunderstorms across the region Tuesday as the upper trough moves into Southeast Texas. However, most areas will stay dry. The chance for rain will only be 20 percent. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky with high temperatures in the mid-70s. Lows Wednesday morning will range from around 50 degrees across the Hill Country, to the mid-50s near the coast.
Wednesday through Thursday
Mostly sunny and dry weather is forecast both days as a weak ridge of high pressure spreads over the area from the west.
- High temperatures are forecast to be in the mid and upper 70s Wednesday, and be around 80 degrees on Thursday.
- Lows Thursday morning will be in the low and mid-50s.
- Lows Friday morning are forecast to be in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Friday through Friday Night (Including LCRA’s Steps Forward Day)
Forecasts are pointing to a very slight chance for some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across the region Friday afternoon as the atmosphere become slightly unstable. A large trough of low pressure is predicted to be over New Mexico Friday, moving to the east-northeast. In advance of the trough, moisture levels are forecast to increase across Central Texas. This may lead to some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms Friday afternoon. Rain amounts at best will be 20 percent. Aside from this slight chance for rain, expect partly cloudy, breezy, and warm weather. High temperatures look to be in the low and mid-80s.
The sky will be mostly cloudy Friday night. Lows Saturday morning will generally be in the low and mid-60s.
Saturday through Saturday Night
A Pacific cold front associated with upper trough is forecast to track southeast out of West Texas Saturday. The front is predicted to move across the Hill Country early Saturday afternoon, Central Texas in the mid to late afternoon, and the coastal region Saturday evening. There will be a 40-50 percent chance for rain showers and scattered thunderstorms ahead of and along the cold front as it moves to the south. There are early indications some of the thunderstorms may be strong to severe—mainly for areas along and east of Interstate 35. The rain is forecast to end from northwest to southeast late Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening. High temperatures Saturday will be in the low and mid-80s.
Rain amounts from Saturday’s shower and storms are forecast to generally average between 0.25 and 0.5 inches, with isolated totals to around 1 inch possible.
Lows Sunday morning will generally be in the low and mid-50s, and around 60 degrees near the coast.
Next Week’s Weather
Mostly sunny and mild weather is forecast Monday and Tuesday. Expect high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s, with lows in the 50s.
Forecasts call for a chance for rain showers and thunderstorms next Wednesday into Wednesday night as a trough of low pressure spreads in from the west. Rain amounts are not expected to be very heavy.
Partly cloudy and dry weather is expected for next Thursday and Friday. High temperatures are forecast to be in the low 80s, with lows in the 60s.
