WHARTON COUNTY, Texas – A $20,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority will help the Boling District Improvement Association make a variety of improvements to the Boling Community Center. lcra.org/cdpp.
The Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $7,000 in matching funds from the association, will allow the group to repair damaged hardware and weathering seals on doors, paint entryways and exits, update kitchen floors and provide maintenance to the lower-level roof. The repairs will help prevent leaks during heavy rains and improve the center’s appearance and security. “Without funds to keep up with maintenance and repairs, our community members would have nowhere to gather,” said Walter Pospisil, president of the Boling District Improvement Association. “This building is over 60 years old and requires ongoing maintenance.” Pospisil said the community center is a popular meeting place for families in Wharton County and surrounding areas because of its centralized location in the Boling area. “The community center hosts a variety of events almost every weekend,” Pospisil said. “Families use the center throughout the year to host special events like weddings, birthdays and graduations.” The community center is one of three facilities at the 9-acre Boling Community Center complex that offers spaces for events and meetings. The Boling District Improvement Association is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to preserving, maintaining and managing the community center complex, which also includes a smaller fellowship building and a pavilion. The community grant is one of 36 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund capital improvement projects in LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in July. More information is available atAbout LCRA
