Muleshoe Bend master planning process

The public is invited to attend open houses concerning proposed improvements at LCRA’s Gloster Bend and Muleshoe Bend Recreation Areas. LCRA will present concepts for proposed improvements and gather comments on plans for the two LCRA parks. The Muleshoe Bend meeting will be on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 4:30 to 7:00 pm, with brief presentations at 5 pm and 6 pm, at the Spicewood Volunteer Fire Department Hall, 9805 Hwy 71 East, Spicewood, Texas, 78669.

Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area's 6.5-mile mountain bike trail is just one of its recreational opportunities. Riders of all experience levels can enjoy the trail. Those who don't want to go the distance can cut their rides short at several points.

Horseback riding is permitted in other areas of the park.

Muleshoe also has plenty of sites for tent camping, picnic tables with views of the lake and a gentle shoreline.

Fees: $5 per vehicle.

Reservations: None required.

LCRA Recreation Area Annual Vehicle Permit: An annual vehicle permit is available for all LCRA recreation areas: Muleshoe Bend, Grelle Park, Turkey Bend, Gloster Bend and Plum Park. The cost is $50. See instructions on how to purchase your annual permit.

Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area is on the upper south side of Lake Travis.

How to get there: From Austin, take State Highway 71 West. Turn right on Paleface Ranch Road and go about 4.5 miles to Burnet County Road 414. Turn right and go about 1.5 miles, then take another right just before the entrance to Ridge Harbor. Continue until you reach the park entrance at the end of CR414

Be a Park Host

LCRA is seeking park hosts in 2006 at public parks in Bastrop and Burnet counties. Park hosts spend 25 hours a week assisting park staff in exchange for an RV site with full utility hookups and use of park facilities. Park hosts duties may include assisting park visitors, collecting litter and performing light maintenance. See Park Hosts for information and an application packet.
