McKinney Roughs Nature Park is closed indefinitely after a Saturday afternoon fire.

The park is located on Highway 71 between Austin and Bastrop. The Saturday fire started around 2:45 p.m. along the highway. Visitors and staff were asked to leave while the fire was controlled. No injuries were reported. 

Damage from the Saturday fire will be assessed on Monday and the park will remain closed until that assessment is complete. The closure does not impact summer camps at the nature center, which will begin Monday.

This weekend’s nature park closing comes after a June 1 fire burned close to 200 acres in and near the facility. Information updates about park access are made daily on the McKinney Roughs hotline at 1-800-776-5272, Ext. 7427.
