Toxic releases from Fayette Power Plant in 2006

LCRA, as well as other electric utilities, are required to report to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the amount of chemicals released into the environment from coal-fired power plants each year.

Studies by The University of Texas at Austin and the EPA indicate that the emissions from the Fayette Power Project do not pose a public health risk.

For a description of some of the most frequently reported chemicals from electric generation facilities, visit Edison Electric Institute's profiles of chemicals reported in the Toxics Release Inventory.

For information about chemicals reported by FPP that do not appear on Edison Electric's list, contact LCRA Environmental Supervisor Monte Gottier via e-mail.

*FPP recycled more than 100 percent of its total output of coal combustion byproducts — fly ash, bottom ash and sludge — for use in cement manufacturing, road construction, building materials and other purposes. (Percentage was more than 100 percent because the amount of products recycled exceeded the amount produced as LCRA sold previously produced products stored on site.) **One-time event related to proper disposal of railroad ties; not associated with the generation of electricity and not included in the total.
